Gilbert Favre and the andine music
Gilbert Favre was a musician born in November 19th, 1936 and died December 12th, 1998, he had a strong impact on the emergence of Bolivian neo-folklore within his group “Los Jairas” as well as on its diffusion in Europe. He is also known as the great love of Violeta Parra, internationally renowned Chilean artist. The film by Andrés Wood, released in 2011 “Violeta se fue a los cielos” has provoked a renewed interest from the “Western” public, the South American public having never forgotten, for life and work of this immense artist, in particular her passionate relationship with Gilbert Favre. However, Gilbert would not be reduced to this simple role of famous lover, he remains a prominent figure in Bolivian music and has influenced many musicians in France, where he lived for around twenty years and in Switzerland, his home country.
